Creating Something Greater

How did you first start doing what you do?

I have always worked a lot with creative things in a lot of ways. Playing music especially. I also always loved computer games, but it wasn't until I was in my mid-twenties I actually realized that making computer games was something you could actually do. I always had this idea that the computer games industry was basically impossible to get into, and that you had to live in the States to have a chance. Suddenly I found out that there was a thriving development scene in Copenhagen (where I live) and that there even was an education to learn computer games. I only had one year left on my philosophy major, but dropped everything the moment I realized that computer games was a viable career, and well, that's how it started.

Why do you love it?

I love working with games, because I believe that it's a media that has so much potential. I feel like it's making movies in the 20's. Back then everyone frowned upon the artistic value of movies — they could never be anything near a book, for example. Today, anyone suggesting that film is a lesser medium would be ridiculed. Games is such an exciting medium because it holds all kinds of experiences, ranging from intense action shooters to thoughtful story-based games. I love working with the combination of story, gameplay (interaction), music, art and everything else to create an experience that is more than the sum of it's parts. Games are constantly changing and that's one of the reason that I think it will never get boring.
